Employer Identification Number (EIN): Small Business TaxesThe EIN or Employer Identification Number is also recognized as the federal Tax Identification Number used for small buisness taxes. It is used to identify a small business entity. You will need an EIN for your small business if you have employees, operate as a corporation or partnership file employment, excise or Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms tax returns. You also need an EIN if you withhold small business taxes on income, not including wages paid to a nonresident alien. You will need an EIN to register with Dun & Bradstreet and seek to obtain a small business loan.
