To successfully budget your finances, you have to be willing to adapt and learn as you go. Not only must you be prepared to deal with the money as it comes in, but you have to deal with changes and the possibilities of missing your budget estimates. Proper planning and adaptation meet to ensure that the budget comes together smoothly.

Things you'll want to do include checking the budget monthly - or even more frequently, if you feel you must. Be flexible and adaptive with your budget based on your observations. Create a "cushion" of sorts - a savings for those times when you're over budget and need a little extra cash. Be conservative; planning on spending too much on an expense and having extra cash is better than planning to spend too little and owing more than you have.

Most important of all, pay attention to your business' finances and don't let the budget get away from you. If absolutely necessary, hiring another employee or even an accountant to take care of the budget for you may cost a little more than doing it yourself, but it's better than forgetting about it.
