Creativity is THINKING of New Things - Innovation DOES New Things: Small Business ExpansionWhile creativity and innovation are two completely different concepts, the two go hand-in-hand with one another when applied to a small business and small business expansion. It is important not to think just in a general sense - that creativity and innovation are concepts that should be applied to your products and services - but in a more specific, and total-business sense. In other words, you not only need to be innovative when you try to determine what you sell, but how you sell it, how you make or provide it, how you market it and how you handle it through small business expansion. In addition, not only should you be creative and innovative, but you should encourage your employees, and even your customers to be so as well. Creativity is fluid. It flows like a liquid and can made to fit in to any shape or any size. A drop of creativity can be just as effective in one aspect of a small business as a tidal wave of it is in another. The most important thing to remember about creativity is that creativity is the manufacturing of ideas, concepts, possibilities and potential. Creativity is ethereal - it's all in your head, or on paper, and doesn't manifest itself physically. On its own, creativity is practically useless; compare it to having good intentions, but failing to act. To make full use of your creativity, you must put it in to action! Innovation is solid. If creativity is raw, moldable and fluid, innovation is the solidifying of that shape in order to put that creativity to use. Simply put, innovation is applied creativity, similar to the distinction between science and applied science. Innovation is the act of turning ideas in to products, concepts in to small business models, possibilities in to facts and potential in to action. It is solely Dependant on one's creativity and, without creativity, innovation would not be possible. The history of the automobile is one of the most profound examples of creativity and innovation. The biggest steps in its evolution came not from its invention, but from its innovation. When Henry Ford entered the market, the automobile had long since been invented and further refined in Germany. Many before had tried to innovate the automobile, but either failed to apply their creativity properly, or simply had bad ideas from the start. Henry Ford showed both creativity and innovation not only in the design of the automobile, but how it was manufactured, marketed, priced and developed, and how a business was run. Not only did Henry Ford innovate practically the entire market, but his creativity allowed him to create an entirely new, successful business, literally from the ashes of the Ford Motor Company - Ford successfully sold wood scraps to make charcoal under the brand name, "Kingsford."
